EXCURSIONS TO THE GREENERY
A restless and vagabond resort, the last coastal resort of the Riviera di Ponente in the Savona province, Andora today
lives on the sea, with its tourist harbour, with its beautiful sand soundings, with its town centre. But, historically,
Andora’s vocation is ‘green’ since the ample valley hosting it is full of surprises.
A few kilometres from the sea, on a hill, the ancient ruins of the Marquis of Clavesana’s castle rise as well as the
late Romanesque Santi Giacomo e Filippo church rise, both going back to 1100. Nowadays the castle is tumble-down, but
the church is very beautiful and suggestive and hosts some musical events, part of the “Music in the Castles of Liguria”
programme. From here you can see a very green valley with silvery hills covered by olive trees, full of paths which can
be travelled over on foot or by mountain bike.
One of the favourite destinations is the pretty village of Colla Micheri, situated on the ridge. From here one climbs up
to Capo Mele, from which you can admire at the same time both the Andora bay and the Alassio bay (also known as Bay of the
Sun) with the Gallinara island.
From Andora some resorts of great interest can be easily reached. A few kilometres eastwards you can find Laigueglia, a
romantic town with a maritime tradition. You can then go on to Alassio, the so called jewel of the Riviera, with its beach
of fine sand and its typically Ligurian historical centre known as “budello” (the ‘gut’). Beyond Alassio you find Albenga,
a town of great historical importance, with a suggestive centre full of precious treasures: the beautiful San Michele cathedral,
the early Christian Baptistery, the Ingauno Civic Museum, the Roman Naval Museum, the Prehistoric Museum and the Diocesan Museum.
Travelling westwards from Andora, after a very short trait of Aurelia above the sea, you can reach Cervo, an enchanting
resort rising on a hill sloping softly towards the sea. The little town is dominated by the scenographic and majestic
San Giovanni Battista church in front of which, within a splendid natural framework, the International Chamber Music
Festival takes place every year.
And of course, always travelling westwards from Andora, you can leave for some beautiful excursions to Imperia, Sanremo
and then to the Cồte d’Azur in France.
But when you are not in a mood for the sea, directly from I Cianelli, you can quickly reach the village of Conna and leave
from here for some relaxing walks in the midst of nature.
Besides, travelling on along the Merula Valley, you can reach Stellanello and from here climb on to Testico and to the
Ginestro Pass and enjoy unforgettable panoramas both in the direction of the sea and in the direction of the mountains.
We always remain at your disposal for any further information and tourist suggestions which can enrich your vacation.
